Sometimes when you are a business owner, you can see everyone talking about things like PPC, SEO, MRR (monthly recurring revenue), Martech, and so on.
It can feel like you are missing out on some vital pieces of information - and more importantly - do you need these things? As a small business, you need to be much more particular about where you spend your money and what you spend it on. While you can spend some time looking for the right (free) marketing tools (Martech) to get your marketing going, when it comes to SEO, it’s something that you really can’t do without. The great thing is that you don't have to handle your SEO yourself; you can hire a company that offers SEO services to handle it. Of course, you should take the time to understand why you need it, or perhaps more importantly, what can happen if you don’t have it. Competitors It’s not the number one reason, but it is pretty high up on the list. If you are ignoring SEO or only ‘sort of’ doing some SEO, you’ll get left in the dust. If you search for the service of your product - who are the first names that you see? Is it yours? Unless you are in a very niche industry, then you are likely going to see a list of your competitors - both local and global. The reason they are ranking where they are is because of their SEO efforts. Head to their website, read their content, look at what they are doing, and you’ll likely see SEO content, fresh blog posts, and more. Traffic The services you offer and your products will go some way to telling search engines about what you do. However, to send a bigger signal, you need to have plenty of supporting content - that covers your products, services and industry available too. Consider your website without SEO like a small match lit in a dark room, and then consider your website with SEO light sunlight pouring through the window. If you’re looking for light - you’re going to the window. You will use all of the data you have about your traffic to capitalize and create more. And although Google is the most used search engine, it is not the only one. There are a few others, and you should make sure that you have these as some of your focus. Even if you don’t have a huge budget, if you work on your content and apply SEO content creation techniques to everything you create, you can increase your visibility and traffic. Revenue When your website is search engine optimized, one of the things you will notice is an increase in sales and revenue. Your products will be readily delivered to people who are searching for them by search engines. The increased revenues and sales will come from your increased visibility. So the question is can your business do well without SEO? And the answer is, you can only get so far without it. SEO doesn’t start and end with these items, though; there are many opportunities to increase your visibility and your traffic.
