Office Security Essentials for Your Safety

If you're running a business then you need to put the safety of you and your employees at the forefront of your mind. Your office building has to be a safe environment, and whether you are buying one or you have rented one, that should be one of your first priorities. Not only do you want to protect the way that your business is running, but you have to protect the people working in and visiting the building. 

From ensuring that you have the correct emergency door releases to ensuring that you have a floodlit parking spot, you want to make sure that every single person that works for you feels like they are being safe when they go to work. There are plenty of risks for security today, and keeping your building secured is not always the easiest thing to do among all of those. So, let's find out below how you can keep that building of yours secure when you are working. 

• Going digital with your door locks. Electronic door locks are so much more effective than the standard deadbolt. Of course, the most effective thing to do is to have a mix of the two, because then if there is a power cut at least you know that you can still open the doors and leave the building. It's not just about people coming in and out of the building and causing a nuisance with your employees, but it's also about knowing that you can get out of the building in the event of an emergency like a fire. Electronic keys can make it a very simple process because your building then has unique ways to get in it. You will also know exactly who has the keys to which doors of your building, and it can be used on everything from doors to elevators. Without an electronic key, somebody cannot get in.
• Good lighting. If you have stairwells in your building, which you should do because otherwise it's a fire risk, you need to make sure that you have good lighting throughout these areas as well as the main office. It's nice to have security cameras and some of the big ticket items for security, but lights can be a very easy way to ensure that people feel safe. Darkened stairwells or parking lots that are in complete darkness during the night are not safe areas, so you have to be aware of this.
• Instal security cameras. This one is a given. Any savvy business owner should have security cameras on site just in case of a break in or in case of any suspicious activity. These shouldn't just be in the expected areas, either. You can get security cameras that monitor all areas of the building including those darkened stairwells into the ceiling.
• Security guards. A good way to ensure that you have security in your offices to have somebody on site 24/7. You can outsource this to a security company who can have security guards there round the clock.
